Im Rahmen des Projekts ENVISAGING VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION ist eine Künstlerpublikation/artist publication erschienen.
Vocational rehabilitation ist ein Begriff der sich im Englischen auf soziale Eingliederungsmaßnahmen bezieht, die darum bemüht sind, Menschen aus einer Arbeitsunfähigkeit in den Beruf zurückzuführen. Dieses soziale Aufgabenfeld ist Ausgangspunkt der Zusammenarbeit zwischen dem in Berlin lebenden Künstler Simon Denny und der neuseeländischen Wissenschaftlerin Joanna Fadyl, die dieses Thema in ihrer Doktorarbeit behandelt. Dennys künstlerisches Interesse an Themen der Freizeitkultur, Unterhaltungsindustrie (Video,Fernsehen) und der Ästhetik einer inflationären Informationsökonomie richtet sich für das gemeinsame Projekt auf die spezielle Funktion von Informationsästhetik. Das Projekt besteht in der Aufarbeitung des visuellen Materials der Studie Fadyls zur historischen Entwicklung der Definition und Rolle beruflicher Wiedereingliederung in die Gesellschaft. Beispielhaft werden hier Dokumente aus der Sozialgeschichte Neuseelands zusammengetragen und von Denny gemeinsam mit dem in Amsterdam lebenden Designer David Bennewith in einer Publikation zusammengeführt. Daran knüpfen weitere Teile des Projektes an, die Denny gemeinsam mit anderen Künstlern für den Westfälischen Kunstverein entwickelt hat.
Vocational rehabilitation is a term that refers to a process of compelling and enabling people to overcome disability so they can work. This social practice is the starting point for a collaboration between the Berlin-based artist Simon Denny and Joanna Fadyl, a PHD candidate from New Zealand who’s thesis focuses on this topic. For the joint project Envisaging Vocational Rehabilitation, Denny revisits his artistic interest in topics such as leisure culture, the entertainment industry (video, television) and the aesthetics of an information economy by working with information design. The project consists of a collaborative reorganisation of visual and textual material from Fadyl’s research around the development of the definition and role of reintegration into employment and society. Exemplary documents originating from New Zealand’s social history have been compiled and processed by Denny and the Amsterdam based designer David Bennewith to form a central brochure from where the diverse parts of the project are accessed.
