Virginia Overton (b. 1971 in Tennessee) practices an economy of materials: she uses and re-uses found materials and objects that are about to lose or have already lost their original purpose. From these resources she develops temporary sculptures that often seem tenuous; manifesting a provisional relation with their environment. Even though Overton's spatial interventions might at first appear simple and raw, they are always extraordinarily precise and unique as they evolve out of an immediate confrontation with a particular space and the available materials. With her first exhibition in Germany at Westfälischer Kunstverein Virginia Overton will show new artworks developed on site.
This is the artist's first exhibition in Germany.
Curator: Kristina Scepanski
The exhibition was made possible thanks to the generous support of Kunststiftung NRW.
