Our working conditions are changing. Digitization and the increasing proliferation of technology have paved the way for a fast dissemination of information across the globe. The established three-sector hypothesis of traditional economic sciences is being confronted with its limits and needs to be extended. A fourth sector would cover informational services, entertainment and leisure – it becomes the domain of the arts. The product spectrum of the ever-growing art market ranges from documentary knowledge production to shallow event spectacles. In no other field, work and leisure, business contacts and friendships are so strongly intertwined that they have become almost indistinguishable. The international group show “Kultur und Freizeit” (“Culture and Recreation”) brings together seven young artists, who analyse, reflect or comment on their current role as cultural workers.
The exhibition was made possible thanks to the generous support of Kunststiftung NRW as well as Danish Arts Council.
